The SAR is a lineage organization for men 18 years and older who are able to prove blood descent back to an ancestor who contributed in some way to the cause of American Independence. Contributions range from military service, providing supplies to the military, administering to the wounded, and other support roles to the cause contributed by a male or female ancestor. If you have a relative who is or was a member of the SAR or DAR, that might make it easier for you to become a member.  More information on membership qualifications and a worksheet to get you started are available at National Society Sons of the American Revolution website. Click here to download an application worksheet or here for an Illinois SAR brochure.  You can read more about application costs and levels of membership here.

Revolutionary War Patriots Buried in Illinois (by county) The National SAR has a searchable database of patriots.  Click here to see if your patriot is listed.   The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution also has a genealogy link on their website that allows researchers to look for their patriots.

There are two Illinois compatriots who are willing to help you with your application.  Contact
Garry Grugan or Bingham Seibold III and they will be glad to assist you.  If you are already an SAR member-at-large or outside a chapter area, you can join any nearby chapter.

If you think you qualify, please consider joining us.
